Sound familiar?

You write a great prompt. Then you lose it.

It's buried in a chat from three weeks ago. Or a Notion page. Or prompts_final_v2_REAL.txt. So you rewrite it from memory, and it never works quite as well as the first time.

Every AI power user has the same problem. Your prompts are your most valuable AI asset, and they're scattered everywhere.

What if your prompts worked like code?

They'd be organized and versioned, you could test them, and you'd always know which version is the good one.

That's PromptNote.

Manage

Every prompt in one organized library

Collections, tags, favorites and instant search across every word. Use {{variables}} to turn one prompt, such as a persona or role prompt, into a reusable template.

  • Collections and favorites: one home per client, project or task.
  • Template variables: fill in {{product}} or {{audience}} each time.
  • Backup and share: export a collection or your whole library, with history, as one JSON file.
Version

Version control for prompts

Every edit can be saved as a version. Preview old versions, restore any of them, and mark the one that works as Production. No more "which one was it?"

  • Preview and restore: undo a bad tweak in one click.
  • Scores on every version: see at a glance which one performs best.
Experiment

Run and improve prompts with any model

Connect OpenAI, Claude, Gemini or local Ollama models. Run a prompt without leaving the app. Click Improve and the AI rewrites it, then save the rewrite as a new version.

  • Bring your own model: choose which models appear in the app.
  • Keys stay safe: encrypted with Windows' built-in secure storage.
  • Local models: run prompts on Ollama, on your own machine.
Evaluate

Evaluate every prompt. Stop guessing, measure it.

Click Evaluate to score a prompt on five metrics (intent, quality, ambiguity, context and answerability), with concrete suggestions for making it better.

  • One overall score out of 100, plus a score per metric.
  • Explained: each score says what's strong and what to fix.
  • Improve, re-score, repeat until the prompt is ready for Production.

Plus: use your best prompt anywhere

Press Ctrl+Shift+P in any app, search, hit Enter and paste. PromptNote waits in your system tray.

Frequently asked questions

How do I evaluate an AI prompt?

Open the prompt in PromptNote and click Evaluate. The model you connected scores it out of 100 on five metrics (intent, quality, ambiguity, context and answerability), explains each score and suggests fixes. Scores are kept with each version, so you can see which version works best.

Can I save persona and role prompts as templates?

Yes. Write the persona once, for example You are a senior {{role}}, and use {{variables}} for the parts that change, such as audience, product or company.

Can AI expand or improve my prompt?

Yes. Click Improve and your connected model rewrites a short prompt into a clearer, more detailed one. You can copy it, replace your prompt with it, or save it as a new version.

Do I need an AI subscription?

No. Saving, organizing, versioning and the Quick Picker work without one. Connect your own API key or a free local Ollama model when you want to run or score prompts.

Where are my prompts stored?

On your computer, in a local database. PromptNote works fully offline. Your prompts are only sent to an AI provider when you choose to run, improve or evaluate them.

Are my API keys safe?

Keys are encrypted with Windows' built-in secure storage and never leave the app's core process.

Can I back up or move my prompts?

Yes. Export one collection or your whole library, including version history, to a JSON file, and import it anywhere.

Mac or Linux?

Not yet. PromptNote is available for Windows 10 and 11.

How much does it cost?

Try every feature free for 7 days. After that, a lifetime license is a one-time payment of $12. No subscription.

How does the Quick Picker work?

Press Ctrl+Shift+P from any window on Windows. A small overlay appears so you can search, copy or create prompts without leaving the app you're working in.

Can I get a refund?

No, we do not offer refunds for the purchase of the app. The 7-day free trial lets you test everything first.
